The 2026 POMS International Conference in China, hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong University and co-organized by Tianjin University, Zhejiang University, and the University of Science and Technology of China, is scheduled to be held from July 17 to 20, 2026, at the Shaanxi Hotel in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.
The Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), as the most influential international academic organization in the field of production and operations management, has been dedicated to advancing global academic research and practical innovation in this discipline since its establishment. In 2018, with the authorization and approval of the POMS Board of Directors, four leading Chinese universities—Tianjin University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, and the University of Science and Technology of China—jointly initiated the "POMS International Conference in China." From 2019 to 2025, these universities have successively hosted the conference with great success. Building on this solid foundation, the 2026 event will once again be hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong University. This conference aims to provide an even broader academic exchange platform for POM scholars nationwide and an excellent opportunity for international scholars to visit China for various forms of collaboration and exchange.
Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) is an international professional organization representing the interests of POM professionals from around the world. The official website is: https://www.poms.org.
The purposes of the Society are:
• Expand and integrate knowledge that contributes to improved understanding and practice of production and operations management;
• Disseminate information on POM to managers, scientists, educators, students, public and private organizations, national and local governments, and the general public;
• Promote the improvement of POM and its teaching in manufacturing and service organizations worldwide.
Each annual conference offers opportunities for students, scholars, and practitioners to share knowledge through academic presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and lectures.
The 2026 POMS International Conference in China will center on the theme:
"Human-AI Collaborative Operations for a Better World."
This conference aims to explore the collaboration between humans, artificial intelligence, and machines to enhance operational effectiveness and performance, while fostering a safe, socially responsible, and sustainable society for the benefit of humanity.
Researchers and students from academia, government agencies, industries, and research centers involved in operations management are welcome to submit papers and attend.

Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is a prestigious institution of higher education with profound historical heritage and renowned recognition both in China and abroad. Its origins can be traced back to Nanyang Public School, founded in Shanghai in 1896, which was renamed Jiao Tong University in 1921. In 1956, in response to the national strategy of developing Northwest China, the main body of the university relocated to Xi'an, Shaanxi, and was officially renamed Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1959. This westward relocation, hailed as a "Great March" in the history of Chinese higher education, forged the university's "Westward Relocation Spirit" — characterized by embracing national missions, selfless dedication, preserving traditions, and pioneering through hard work. Since the relocation, XJTU has remained rooted in western China while serving the nation, evolving into a comprehensive research-oriented university renowned for its strengths in engineering and offering a wide range of disciplines in science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, arts, education, and interdisciplinary studies. The university was selected as a key construction institution during the 7th and 8th Five-Year Plans, and was among the first batch of universities included in the national "211 Project", "985 Project", and "Double First-Class" Initiative as a Class A university.
Learn more...In 1978, Xi'an Jiaotong University initiated management education and established the Systems Engineering Institute, marking the beginning of its management discipline development. In 1979, the university was approved as one of the first institutions in China to offer the Management Engineering program. The Department of Management Engineering was formally established in 1981 and began enrolling the first cohort of undergraduate students in this discipline. In 1984, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Xi'an Jiaotong University re-established its School of Management, becoming one of the earliest management schools in China. In terms of international accreditation and disciplinary development, the school achieved initial AACSB international accreditation in 2011, followed by successful maintenance accreditation in 2016. That same year, it also earned the QS Stars Five-Star Business School certification, becoming the first business school in China to receive this honor. In both the 2017 and 2022 rounds of the national "Double First-Class" initiative, the school's two first-level disciplines—Management Science and Engineering and Business Administration—were consecutively included in the list of "Double First-Class" construction disciplines. Looking ahead, the School of Management is committed to building a world-class management school that leads in management research, attracts outstanding talent in management education, and demonstrates excellence in social contribution.
